Om and Andy discover Dan Berninger

Dan Berninger is starting to finally get "discovered" by some of the Net Digitari.

It was bound to happen. I've known Dan since 1995 and worked with him in the early days of the VON Coalition, while he was at VocalTec, in the pre-Vonage days at Min-X, WHP Wireless, Free World Dialup and during the time while he was at pulver.com.

While he is already infamous in some Washington D.C. circles for his antitrust activities, people like Om Malik and Andy Abramson are starting to give Dan his due.

VocalTec. VocalTec InternetPhone. My first Voice over Internet thing. Insofar my best quality per bandwidth experience. Someone give me back my 33.6kbaud days! :P

But more seriously — what is that made it rock just so much, even on such crappy connections? I had contacts in, like, Pakistan, and it worked!

This is not to bash FWD, but I have yet to see the reliability from SIP/RDP (and thus from services employing these) on a system that has an upstream twice the breadth that modem had altogether!
