Vonage is now advertising on...Nick@Nite?

My kids have been pointing out to me that Vonage has been advertising this past week on Nick@Nite. I'm not sure what the target age demographic is for Vonage by advertising on Nick@Nite but my kids have heard seen the Vonage ad often enough to mention it to me.

With their published commitment to spend between $50-75 million on advertising, I wonder whether Vonage will be amongst the first VoIP Service providers to advertise during the Super Bowl.

Rock-A-Teens first released single of Woo-Hoo in early to mid 1959 on Doran Records (#3515) valued at $125, later purchased by Roulette Records (#4192) valued now at $25 and released to first chart 10/5/1959, was on the charts for 12 weeks and peaked at #16.

Well, it's on iTunes in the 5.6.7.8's version AND the Rock*A*Teens version (specifically NOT the version used in the commercial. THAT goes to the 5.6.7.8's). And, any Rockabilly or fan of early Blues, even Swing and Big Band music will recognize this standard riff that runs rampant...especially in the BeBop phase of Swing music in the 50's (any wonder John Waters used the Rock*A*Teens "watered-down" version in Pecker?). As for the '86 "Shining Knight" dude...come on! Are you kidding? Good for you for getting a "worldwide" album, but seriously! Come back down to Earth. You don't have exclusive rights on the words "Woo Hoo". You think every roller coaster rider should pay you when they utter those words on the downhill ride?

Posted by: kc at July 21, 2006 12:27 PM

Whatever you wish to call it, it is a standard 12 bar blues piece, with a very simple melody. At any rate, I have written it out in the original and transposed for standard jazz band - rather fun for students to learn to improvise to something familiar.

If anyone wishes to discuss the purchase of sheet music, please contact me, but it is indeed easy to write out for yourself.

the song is called woo hoo it's by The Rock*A*Teens. It was featured in the movie Pecker by John Waters in 1998

Are you guys crazy? This is a classic blues riff called " Boogie Woogie", the music is the blues riff, thats been around since the late 1930's, but the ones on the song added " Woo hoo a woo hoo hoo"

Posted by: jarrety at August 21, 2005 10:38 PM

I did an album called "SHINING KNIGHT" in 1986 released worldwide and copyrighted. The First Song on my album features the chant "WOO HOO WOO HOO," I wonder if I have a claim for copyright infringement??

Posted by: Graham GraceAKA Tony Howard at August 4, 2005 12:00 AM

The name of the song is not "Yoo Hoo". The name of the song is "Woo Hoo". It is from the movie Kill Bill and it is by the 5,6,7,8's.

Posted by: KMastin at July 10, 2005 12:09 AM

The Vonage song is called Yoo Hoo by the 5 6 7 8's off of the movie Kill Bill

Well, the Super Bowl is over - a great game. Yes, I am New England fan - but from a overall standpoint I think its safe to say that everyone stayed tuned to the last minute of the game.

I watched all the commericals - I still remember the "1984" Apple Commerical back in 1984. At any rate, no VOIP commerical that I saw. Oh well.

I was Watching ESPN this am and saw the VONAGE AD on ESPN!!!!!! Good times ahead for all!

Skibare

Today was the first day I have seen their ads on non "targeted" networks, such as CNN, TechTV and CNBC.

Posted by: Mike at January 1, 2005 06:26 PM

I have seen the Vonage commercial as well on prime time networks and it seems to me they are targeting any demographic that has broadband connection and is willing to dole out more money on Vonage than they already are on broadband. Looks like they are targeting non technical customers and may be the reason why they lock down their hardware and services. To me, they seem just like any other LD provider now, at least VoIP is getting recognized! and on Vonage's dime!
