My interview with Skype Journal: Freedom to Connect

During VON Canada I had a chance to sit down with both Stuart Henshall and Bill Campbell and shared some issues which were on my mind at that time.

The first part of the interview is included in the Don’t Take My Skype Away story published in the Skype Journal.

Chris, its the Internet and the issue is that when we connect SIP End Point to End Point its should be without translation between the devices. For the last 10 years we have connected via the PSTN more often than not. Skype has done a great service to SIPsters, because its shows the power of staying on the Internet, even though it does not use SIP.

Jeff's point is a truly Internet based SIP solution is the ideal model for the industry. Unfortunately, all too often it is not where we are heading.

Could you please clarify what you mean by end-to-end IP? The use of IP is what I don't get. Does it mean Internet Protocol? Intellectual Property? The first doesn't make too much sense to me, because that's the way the 'net has always been set up, and the second just doesn't make sense.

So what does this phrase mean?
