Maybe IP-technology will help improve emergency response capabilities so that fewer soldiers will have to die.

Maybe VOIP, and presence will enable us to communicate better, understand each other better, and help avoid wars in the first place!

The military is going through a massive revolution in its communications technology that is very analagous to what you see in the VoIP world these days. I would refer you to Google on the term "JTRS". You may already be aware of this, but its a massive program to replace all the single voice channel, push-to-talk radios currently in use with modern, IP-based, data routers.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. The entire military community is exploring amazing communications applications that will allow dissemination of situational awareness and much more rapid fire control using unmanned and standoff weapons. If you thought the victory in Iraq was rapid, wait another 10 years!
