eBay/Skype: Sometimes Reporters just don’t “Get It:”
This morning TheStreet.com included me in their take of the recent eBay/Skype deal. I find it interesting while how some reporters/analysts/writers appreciated the significance of Monday's eBay/Skype deal, there are other reporters who find it easier to ridicule the situation rather than spend the time trying to actually understand it.
Well at least the folks at TheStreet.com spelled my name right and used a recent picture of me.

They are trying to cut off people's need to "google" for stuff.

I really like your opinion on the whole matter - but I have a somewhat different idea on the matter.
I think they are doing this to fight Google. This is a fight for survival, rather than a push for diversification. They are trying to cut off people's need to "google" for stuff. Rather, potential customers can be targeted by parsing their conversations (Gmail has already set a legal precedent for this)
Here's my take on this:

I really like your comment here, and especially in the interview. Most journalists don't see the bigger picture here.
Just one nice tip, the first integration of Skype on an eBay family site is a fact. Just 72 hours after the announcement of the take over, we went live today with Skype integration on Marktplaats.nl, the classified site eBay bought last year November in The Netherlands.
We saw this as a great opportunity to service our trading community, and off course a great challange to be the first to have such an integration :)
