Skype for Business: Skype is looking for an Enterprise Product Manager

Looks like Skype is now taking the steps to enter the Enterprise marketplace.

I just noticed their job posting for: "Product Manager Skype for Business: Lead the development of Skype for SMB and enterprise."

This should be a real interesting opportunity for someone with the background who would be interested in working for Skype in London.

Folks, Microsoft continues to buy VoIP companies - after Teleo this summer, MS bought Swiss VoIP company (Media-streams.com) last week. What do you think would be Skype’s value if MS (or Google) buys GIPS (current voice engine provider to Skype)?

I have a hard time seeing Skype penetrate the SMB market as it now stands. It is perfect for eBay's purpose, but it is not ready for prime time in the enterprise market. Although it could be a great job if eBay/Skype is willing to put some serious money and thought behind the business. I still contend that Skype is a phenomenon, not a disruptive technology.

Skype as a company has a long way to go before it will be ready for business. Two examples:

1. If you have a Macintosh with a built in microphone it stopped working in April. I reported a bug and after a few weeks was told it would be fixed in the next release. It's now Novmber and two releases later it's not fixed.

2. I had Skypeout credit on an account I rarely use, on a laptop. I'm on the Skype account at least once a week, but never made calls using SkypeOut. They sent me an email telling me that they canceled my balance, not a warning.

When I complained I was told that had I gone to my account balance web page I would have seen a warning. I told them it was like the demolition orders in the Hichhiker's Guide, put in a place I would never go. No response.

I figure if they could email me a "we ripped you off" email, they could of just as easily sent me a warning email.

I used to recommend Skypeout as a cheap VoIP alternative to 3-4 customers a week, now I won't
recommend it to anyone and certainly would never use them for a business.

As a comparison, I have a Vonage account through company called Amerifone who sells to and supports customers here in Israel. They have gone out of their way to answer my questions, provide service and helped me srtaighten out a problem with my credit card billing when my bank screwed up.

Whomever Skype hires has a tough road ahead of them, and I wish them luck.
