Sling Player: Something to watch for those with Jet Lag

It’s now 4:45 am local time in Jerusalem and while I’m usually pretty good when it come to adjusting to time zones, at the moment I’m awake and online and have spent part of the night watching TV. But I’m not watching Israeli TV, but rather the Cable TV from my home on Long Island, by simply running the Sling Player on my PC, which is connected to my Slingbox from Sling Media.

The Slingbox is one of the innovations of 2005 that has become a personal change agent for me. Just the thought of being able to travel with all of the Cable TV channels that I enjoy watching, is something, I now take for granted when I’m on the road. As others experience this cable ubiquity, I believe this is the kind of experience is something that could have a profound way on the way that broadband consumers experience Cable TV in the future.

This evening I have been particularly impressed with the high speed Wi-Fi available in my hotel, as I’ve been getting a pretty consistent 500-600k stream on my Sling Player. While I appreciated being able to channel surf the local NYC TV channels reporting on the settlement of the NYC transit strike, I enjoy the ability to remotely tune my cable box to USA Networks and watch Law and Order:CI the most.

Hi Jeff,

Can you tell what connection do you have back at home ?

Is the screenshot a real one ? How is the quality, do you get any freezes ?

You mean you can't get Law and Order:CI in Israel directly on Israeli TV?

Hmmm... now THAT surprises me....Dick Wolf was taking over the world with the franchise.

When I've been in Australia, they've had Law & Order on, abet not the most recent ones... but I digress...

Welcome to Jerusalem. At least you found something to watch on TV at 4am. :-)

Geoff.
