"Blizzard of 2006"

This morning, the first major snowstorm of 2006 is blanketing the Metro NYC area as well as many other communities from Washington, D.C. to Boston.

The weather prediction for Long Island today is for one to two feet of total accumulation over a 24 hour window.

I don't remember the last time there was a snow storm with both thunder and lightning. The local TV Weather folks are enjoying the fact that this is a snow storm with an "eye" like structure.

Having just walked outside, I can confirm the "whiteout" conditions being reported. Weather-wise, we are currently getting 2-4 inches of snow an hour.

Watching the local TV coverage, our roads are a mess with driving snow and are snow packed with ice. Whiteout conditions are common. Oh and there is also blowing and driving snow. At the moment the visibility is less than a quarter mile and it’s windy, with sustained winds between 25-35 mph with gusts near 50mph.

A nice day to stay indoors...if you can.

It was interesting to watch as all the local nYc stations sent their reporters to the four corners of the tri-state area to do live shots to confirm what we all knew. It was snowing and snowing hard.
