Spring 2006 VON: Just One Month Away

The IP Communications Industry will be well represented at Spring 2006 VON when our event commences on March 14th. Between the 320+ exhibitors in our "Sold Out" exhibit hall, to the 300+ people speaking at the Spring 2006 VON Conference, some of the best and brightest leaders in the IP Communications industry will be with us in San Jose.

The past twelve months have seen the worldwide commercialization of Voice over IP shift into high gear. A year ago, who would have thought that eBay would end up owning Skype or that the issues surrounding Net Neutrality would be the talk amongst Telecom Lobbyists in Washington, D.C.? While the recent filing of the Vonage S-1 was long anticipated and analysts forecasted the fact that the US Cable Industry would become the leader in US VoIP deployments, a year ago many people were not aware of the pending social policy issues that would be effecting the VoIP Industry within a year. Except of course those people who attended Spring 2005 VON and attended our Communications Policy Summit where topics including: E911 and CALEA were discussed in great detail.

During the past ten years the telecom industry has been shown that with the advent of Voice over IP, “Voice” is just an “application.” Over the next few years compressed over a shorter time period, I believe the traditional Broadcast Industry will be shown that “TV” is just an “application.”

In fact, ever since the success of AOL Music’s Live8 broadcast on July 2, 2005, "Disruptive Broadcasting" has been one of the themes that entered my personal radar screen. To me, the Internet has become a viable alternative to: Broadcast TV, Cable and Satellite. As a result, I invited a few people who are helping to drive the "Disruptive Broadcasting" space including: Jim Bankoff, Executive Vice President, AOL Programming & Products, America Online, Jeremy Allaire, Chairman and CEO, brightcove and Jason Krikorian, CFO & VP, Business Development, Sling Media, to give an "Industry Perspective" at Spring 2006 VON.

Other people sharing their “Industry Perspective” at Spring 2006 VON include:

* Jason Calacanis, CEO, Weblogs, Inc.
* Jeffrey Citron, Chairman, Vonage
* James Enck, European Telecom Analyst, Daiwa Securities SMBC Europe
* Henry Gomez, General Manager, Skype North America
* David Hofstatter, President & CEO, CallWave
* Blake Irving, Corporate Vice President, MSN Communication Services & Member Platform Group, Microsoft
* John Killian, President, Verizon Business
* Greg Meffert, CTO, The City of New Orleans
* Tim Montgomery, CEO & President, Ditech Communications
* Dick Notebaert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Qwest Communications
* Tim O'Reilly, Founder and CEO, O'Reilly Media
* Joe Rinde, President, Rinde Associates
* Mark Spencer, President, Digium/Asterisk
* Brough Turner, SVP & CTO, NMS Communications
* Marc Zionts, CEO, Excel Switching Corporation/Brooktrout Technology
