Skype for Business: A Yawn or Home Run? Hard to Tell...

During the past few days, as the momentum for Spring 2006 VON has been growing, I've done a number of interviews with the media, including: BusinessWeek, San Francisco Chronicle, LA Times and yesterday morning with CNBC.

Early this week, I understood that Skype had some news "under embargo" for today, but since I wasn't briefed with their news, I couldn't really comment about the merits of it, except for whatever friends would hint it would be. So my comments in the LA Times today were said "in the dark" and may or not really apply to the merits of their news announcement today.

Note to Skype -- you may want to make an effort to find a way to brief me next time.

LA Times: Internet Phone Firm Calls Out to Small Businesses

"Jeff Pulver, a pioneer in the Internet telephony industry, said the new services sounded "more gimmicky than useful" and seemed to make the company more like any other Internet phone service.

"The old Skype was truly innovative," Pulver said. "It's great that they're doing these things, but I don't see any home runs here."
