Many in the telecom sector want to create new disruptive services. So is Vonage a good role model of a disruptive company?

We graded Vonage using a Disruption Scorecard and it fell short, earning a 'C' grade. Why?

Vonage is not creating a new market;
Vonage business model looks like high-growth now, worry about profits later;
Vonage service doesn't stand on its own in terms of attributes

On the plus side, Vonage does have a new business model, no expensive legacy network, good prices and features.

What do you think of this criteria and the scorecard approach?

Looks like the cell phone companies in the U.K. that did everything to boost subscribers. They did not care if they made any money on the deal or if the phones were legal, lost or stolen, just get the numbers up.

Seems like no one is buying that anymore. You can't spend more to get a customer than they will pay and expect stockholder confidence.

IMHO you should take some time off from the road, even a week a month and go back to Vonage and lead them into the future. They need someone to do it.
