Tom Evslin: George Bush When He's Right

Tom Evslin: George Bush When He's Right

What a difference a month makes. A month ago I was in Israel for 4 1/2 days and made the most of it. While I was there for VON Israel, I attended the 2006 IVA Conference and hosted a party with my friend Yossi Vardi for the Israeli Hi-Tech Industry. While I was in Tel Aviv I met with a number of start-ups and I was taken by the energy, vision and drive of the people at these companies. Since my return to the States I have kept in contact with these start-ups and I look forward to seeing them again in Israel in the near future. In the days after my return to the States, fighting in Gaza started and then the war in Lebanon happened.

With regard to the war in Lebanon, Tom Evslin wrote: "George Bush is very right on the war in Lebanon. He deserves to have that said. Policy discussions should be separated from political arguments."

I agree with Tom and his read of President George Bush on the war in Lebanon. While I may not agree with the President's position on Embryonic Stem Cell research, I do believe the President is right on how he is approaching the war in Lebanon and his ongoing support for Israel.

Reading Tom's blog posting reminded me of an old Golda Meir quote: "Peace will come when Arabs will love their children more than they hate us. When peace does come, we will, perhaps in time be able to forgive them for killing our sons. But it will be farmore difficult for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons. I am grateful that I live in a country whose people have learned to go on living in a sea of hatred without hating those who want to destroy them and without abandoning their own vision of peace. To have learned this is a great art, the prescription for which is not written anywhere. It is part of our way of life in Israel."

Peace needs two or more.
War needs two or more too.
Who is to blame?
In this situation I think the ones who do for war and say for peace at both sides.

Killing a couple hundred innocent people (not to mention, with biological weapons) as a response to capturing two is heavily unjudaic, and said capture is not a reason for a full-weight war. Where’s diplomacy when you need some?

Some countries are just looking for way to use their weaponry.

That’s all I have to say about that.
