Jeff's Quick Guide to TV on the Net (TV/IP)
Disintermediation of TV Distribution Outlets, or Doing to Television what we've Now Done to Voice
In gearing up for the Fall Video on the Net Conference, I've been exploring recent developments in both the "video on the Net" space, and what I am terming the "tv on the Net" space. It turns out that there really has been a paradigm shift in the way in which "tv", not just "video", is being delivered.
During the past twelve months, as the momentum for Broadband TV has snowballed, an increasing number of media companies have decided to take their content and make it available for viewing on the Internet. In some cases, the content offered is "re-runs" of prime time content, in other cases the Internet is being used to channel "vintage" programming (re-runs of old programs) and there is an increasing number of cases in which new content is being developed by media companies for just the broadband Internet. By default, the viewing experience is being offered to people assuming a Windows desktop. It is the mobile users (Symbian and Windows Mobile) who are most "content-viewing challenged". Some of the content owners are using variations of Flash and others are using Quicktime and Windows Media to deliver their content.
Some of the sites referenced restrict viewing to certain geographic areas based on their support of digital rights management. (I hope that this is simply a temporarily-limiting aberation, which will be resolved when law and policy catches up with technology and the broader good.)
When compiling this list, the focus was on English language content and a bias was applied to the established companies and brands associated with Cable and Broadcast TV programming. Turns out that there is quite a bit of content being offered around the world in a multitude of languages.
While most of the content listed below is available for free, some of it is being offered on a subscription basis. Amongst all of the "channels" and brands referenced below, as a company, Viacom appears to be the most active in the creation of broadband TV channels.
Our research discovered a number of local network affiliates who are offering video clips from their local programming library. Mostly Weather related.
While all efforts have been made to maintain the accuracy of the links below, there is no shortage of start-ups launching new content, new brands and new channels.
So...if you are aware of missing links(s), PLEASE send email to: jeffp@pulver.com with your updates.

The best thing about video on net is they are searchable and can be played at anytime. Those paid stuff in iTune can be easily found on video destination site. In fact, our new sexy video mesh up site contains the best, most popular sexy videos you can find on Internet. That is the main difference between TV and Net. Unless, one day Tivo can make the different disappear, that is why I am holding Tivo stock for two years now.

Heres one more. Original programming 24/7.

With all respect to the list, the real thing starting to hapen with TVoIP is TVoP2P. Software from the far east, like PPStream, PPlive and TVants are enabeling broadcast with minimum bandwidth. No re-runs, no zone limits. If this hits mass acception, thing are going to really change.
