AOL Video is now Live!

AOL Video (beta) is now live!

Watch out YouTube and Veoh, with the launch of AOL Video, AOL is now playing in your space with the launch of UnCutVideo and AOL Viral Videos.

Given AOL Music’s success last summer with Live8, it was just a matter of time before they would go the next step and launch a broadband video portal.

Early last week I was briefed by the AOL Video team on the launch of their new site. It was one of the few times of recent memory where I enjoyed listening to a powerpoint pitch. The Q&A with their team was fun, and while I wanted to explore the site right after the briefing, it was great to see AOL Video launch today.

AOL's Video Search is one of the features that stands out as it offers the ability to search video content across the internet.

There is a great deal of video content available, some for free and some for pay and I expect the features, functionality and the depth of the site to morph over time.

AOL has been struggling to make a comeback since the start of high speed DSL/CABLE and the death of Dial-Up internet, they never really figured a way offer high speed internet flawlessly and practically, i think AOL is a great company and could have a bright future however given the current climate and they techniques they are using, perhaps it could easily be overstated in terms of how much success they are likely to achieve in the future, AOL's sites have to much javascript codes and just to many moving parts, but there is still hope, they have the money, and Google's backing as well, even Apple's backing, lets see... iTunes actually has an AOL logo when you want to login to iTunes, and Google holds a 5% steak in AOL, so AOL might not be the bright star it once was due to mistakes made, however they have the backing of some really big and powerful companies ( GOOGLE, AND APPLE ) , so we'll see what happens, they just need to modify a few things and they should have it rollin as normal in the not so distant future. UnCutVideo is a nice service but i think it would be agreeable if someone suggest the name was not all that catchy, it is 3 words, Youtube is two words but at least then blend properly and for one word, there is also the video sharing web site named Motiono which is pretty good too, the name is better than Youtube however they have a long way to go , technology wise. here's a link to motiono's promo video, which is sort of funny: http://en.sevenload.com/videos/Ocb9YNx/Motiono-com-3

AOL's Video Search appears (at first blush) to be Mac un-friendly -- unlike YouTube and Veoh.

Making me download plugins, add-ons, or installer applications to watch a video is a sure way to get me to look elsewhere for my fix!
