Back on the Road. Next stop…Stockholm

I was all set to experience the latest TSA travel restrictions first-hand when I left the Hamptons earlier today for Newark Airport for a flight to Stockholm. From what I could tell, it was in my best interest to plan to get to the airport 3 hours before my flight. I got a little lucky with the lack of traffic on Sunday and got to Newark with a little under 3 hours to spare. Once I got to Newark it took less than a minute to check in at the SAS business class ticket counter. Once I received my boarding pass, I had a 3 minute walk to the security area. I was looking and expecting to see lines and lines of people waiting, but there was just sheer emptiness. No people and no lines. Once I got to the security area, in all of about a minute later, I was thru security and I’m now in the SAS lounge with 2 hours and 40 minutes to spare.

One of the reasons I believe I flew thru security is that I invested 20 minutes before I left my home going thru my computer bag, bit by bit and removing anything and everything that might have been flagged as something that wasn’t up to TSA regulations. From the remnants from past international trips I was amazed at all of the junk that I was carrying around for no apparent reason. I ended up with a much lighter bag and one that was “TSA Ready.”

While I was looking forward to taking advantage of the Connexion in-flight Internet service available on SAS, with the recent disconnect notice, I’m not sure whether or not there will be internet service on my flight today. On the positive side, no internet access on a Sunday night flight means that I may have an easier flight since being “always on” while flying usually translates into “no sleep.”
