Steve Jobs, iTV, Rocketboom, Jeff and VON
Fall 2006 VON got a super nice plug on Tuesday courtesy of Steve Jobs.
While we were in Boston at VON, Steve was in San Francisco introducing Apple's iTV and it's ability to view podcasts, including Rocketboom.
Just watch the webcast. The reference to Podcasts and Rocketboom starts at: 01:02:09.
I don’t know if it is mere coincidence, or a bona fide, profound synchronicity (at least to me) that Steve Jobs chose to use the Rocketboom interview of me on the very day that I was hosting Rocketboom at my Video on the Net Conference. To me, last Tuesday really felt like the day that I was verifying my deep, long-term commit to disruptive video. A nod from Steve Jobs was most moving to me, and confirmation that I am following my destiny. And if it is just a coincidence, then it is just another great coincidence I will never forget. But I think we all try to find patterns and connections and meaning behind what we do, and Steve Jobs presentation is currently serving as that confirmation for me.
I’ve tried for years to give Steve Jobs a platform at our VON events. I always figured Steve (with his genius at perfecting the user experience) was going to invent the perfect Internet communications device. Now that Steve Jobs has announced with gusto Apple’s foray into TV, I am confident that our worlds will continue to collide and that I am participating in one of the greatest adventures of our day and of the immediate future. I hold out hope that one day he may share his vision directly with the VON community.

Jeff, it's now time for you to definitely switch to Mac. ;-)

I was there when you and Andrew were discussion the Apple announcement and I could hear traditional media hold on content start to fall down the stairs. The conference was great and I hope to attend more of them in the future.
Thanks Jeff,
The first Jeff

Jeff:
Congrats on being in two places at once. Something came up and I had to cancel my trip to VON. From reading the blogs and talking to my colleagues, I really missed a great conference. It would have given me the chance to catch up with some new and old acquaintances.
I watched the Apple announcement (note: stream some sessions next year) and immediately saw the potential of iTV. It is everything Media Center isn't. More importantly it is a serious contender for merging of IP-TV with Internet TV. Moto and Cisco better watch out for Apple. Make iTV OCAP compliant with DVR and on-screen guide, and you can throw out your set-top box for an iTV. Did I mention that you can put that episode of 24 that you began watching on the TV on your iPod? Check out my blog where I immediately had to talk about iTV.
