Ghost Rider (The Movie) Opens Today...

Back in September during my talk at Fall 2006 VON, I used Sony Picture's Ghost Rider trailer (powered by Vividas) to showcase where the state of the art in live, streaming High Definition Video delivered over the Internet had evolved to. And since September, I've showcased the same trailer during talks I have given around the world ranging from: Barbados to Germany to Israel and Italy.

To me it didn't matter whether or not I was a fan of the Marvel comic book Ghost Rider, as I felt the visual effects captured by the trailer and enhanced by Vividas was an art form onto itself. And during the past few weeks as I started to see the Ghost Rider movie trailer marketed on various broadcast TV channels, it was a constant reminder of how much more visually appealing the trailer delivered over the Internet was as compared to the visual excitement created from the Ghost Rider trailer created for broadcast TV.

So while I'm not part of the Sony Pictures marketing team that is responsible for the marketing of Ghost Rider, after previewing their trailers as often as I did, I do feel some connection with the film.

For those of you who would like to see the Vividas powered HD Trailer for Ghost Rider, visit this site, click on "Enter the Site", on the top nav bar click on "trailers" and then once the trailer appears in the middle of the screen, click on the stop icon, and then click on HD and experience what I'm referring to. (For maximum effect, it helps if you are on a broadband connected PC.)

Ah. Open standards, like the o/s I assume you're using.
Is it the *cool* o/s with the shiny encased standards or the geeky toolkit o/s cloaked in techno smugness?

It's definately not one forged from studying consumer behaviours and patterns. It's these standards that matter and the ones consumers ultimately choose and use.

Maybe your o/s supplier might one day be 'open' to this blindingly simple idea. Give consumers what they actually want not what suppliers think they need. Users ultimately decide what works for them or not.

I urge you drop a line to your o/s supplier and ask what third party consumer technologies they are planning to embrace. Ask them specifically will they support technolgies the Vividas (On2) standard in the future. Post their response back here.

Many years back, someone told me the internet would never catch on with the general public.
It was too vague, there were no mutual standards, the choices and potential available were too much for simple consumers .... blah. We've seen many, many standards form and fail and change and grow and reach acceptance since then. For THIS specifc debate and technology, we're only at the initial forming stage. Please. Stop bleating on and don't judge without first seeking out this technology on a more open platform than the one you currently use.

Bottom line: Vividas HD streaming content really is a huge, huge leap in quality and experience. Once you've seen it, nothing else cuts the mustard.

Flash 9 video comes pretty close to Vividas quality and experience - they both use On2 video codecs and both are full-screen...

And since Flash is also already installed on something like 98% of computers worldwide (Flash 9 around 55%), you may be waking up soon... http://www.createflashvideo.com

"Unfortunately, the Operating System you are currently using is unsupported."

Yeah, what a fantastic experience that is.

Wake me up when Video on the Net actually has open standards that can be supported cross platform and without proprietary encumbrances.

Until then, its just a toy.
