Chicago Tribune: Internet speed battle escalates
Chicago Tribune: Internet speed battle escalates
"Like Wild West gunslingers, cable TV operators and telephone companies are squaring off for a contest over who's the fastest.
...It is a conundrum, especially for cable TV operators, said Jeff Pulver, founder of Network2.TV, an Internet video service.
"In three to five years, there will be devices, not computers, that you can connect to your flat-screen TV that will bring anything you want to see from the Web," said Pulver. "You can bypass the middle people, including the cable TV systems, and just download programs offered by content producers.
"I believe the cable companies will try to put up roadblocks to keep that from happening. They will have the fight of their lives."

Sometimes it is hard for a reporter to capture a 15 minute conversation with me in two sentences, especially when the conversation was a recap of my recent Internet TV may pose threat to Cable Companies by Decade's End blog post. But I believe the essence of the story was well preserved.
