Mets Rally to Beat Cubs; Set to Pulverize Yankees this weekend
Yesterday was a beautiful spring day in New York City and the Mets had a day game. As a Mets season ticket holder who had only been to one other game so far this season, I decided to take the time and go see the Mets play the Cubs at Shea Stadium. I took the LIRR for a change since there is limited parking at Shea these days with the new Mets ballpark currently under construction. When I got to Shea and sat in my seat, I was taken back by the Mets starting lineup. I knew their pitcher was someone who had just been called up to pitch the game, but for the exception of a couple of players, it seemed like we were watching what could have been a spring training line up playing at Shea on May 17th.
What I didn't realize was that the Mets manager was giving almost everyone a days rest since the game from the day before ended only about 12 hrs before the game I was at started. And with the Yankees coming to Shea for a three game set, even more reason for the Mets players to be given a chance to rest and recover. And I only had a short window of time to be at Shea, since I had a need to be someplace else later in the afternoon. So, with all of this in mind, when the Mets fell behind the Cubs 5-1 in the 6th inning, I called it a day and took the LIRR back to my home.
It turns out that while I was in transit, the Mets staged their biggest ninth inning rally since 1999 and came back and beat the Cubs 6-5. One again, it is proof that in baseball, almost anything can happen…and when there is hope and a will, games can and will turn around. Nothing is Impossible!
And what a great way to transfer the positive momentum of a Mets win into the weekend series against a troubled 2007 Yankees team.
Let's Go Mets!
