Question of the Day: How many different US States and/or Countries have you traveled to?
Given that in the United States, this weekend marks our unofficial start to the summer with our three day "Memorial Day Weekend", I have thoughts of family trips and traveling on my mind today.
Over the years I have visited a number of States across the United States but I have yet to go on that definitive trip to discover Americana and to see ALL the States.
Last year, my friend Mike Jablon told me that he was up to State # 47 and it was his goal to go out and visit all of his missing States. For myself, at last count, I have spent at least one night in 35 of the 50 States.
As far as travel outside of the United States goes, at last count, I have traveled to 33 countries across: Asia, Europe, North America, South America and the Pacific.
Which leads to my Question of the Day: How many different US States and/or Countries have YOU traveled to? Where would you like to visit if you had the opportunity?

Missing Alaska, done all 10 Canadian provinces and two territories, been to 36 countries on six continents (including Russia when it was the USSR behind the Iron Curtain). Still missing Antarctica, but last I heard, penguins still don't use VOIP phones or watch DHTV.

All 50 states - lived in 6 for more than a year each - haven driven across the country 15 times on various routes. 33 countries (mostly Asia/Europe), including Australia for a year and Thailand for 5 years. I'm one of the few people that's been to Dien Ben Phu (7 day journey in a Russian Jeep with a Cambodian driver, being chased by the Vietnamese police trying to extort money from us.) Good fun.
Traveling and living abroad has always appealed to me - just seems like a puzzle to figure out and adapt to the new surroundings. The problem is, as soon as you figure out one puzzle, you need a new one.

For places visited, I've used a cool mapping utility to give my answers. Check it out and use it yourself !

Not very far. California, Nevada, Texas is it really. Jamaica is my only international travel. I'm deprived really. I hear Boston is nice this time of year ;)

35 countries
41 states
I have read that some people deliberately set out to go to every continent once a year, and a few crazies even try to get to every country with some period of time.
Business takes many of us to most continents: Africa, Europe, Asia, Americas, and Australia. Business does not take most people to Antarctica though. So an interesing thing to do would be to arrange a trip to Antarctica for all VoIP/VIDEOoIP fans. Perhaps a qualification for the trip would have to be proof that you have been to the other continents (calendar year or not - your choice).
I was once in the position of Antarctica being the only continent I had not been to in the calendar year and I just was not able to pull the trigger on the Antartica bit. So that is my goal for some time in the future: all continents in one calendar year.
Jeff, so there is a challenge for you. I know you are adventurous enough to give it a go. How about a VON Antarctica, or at the very least a VoIP or VIDEOoIP broadcast from there ;-)

So far, I'm the only visitor to Africa? Wow! I've made three amazing trips there. And if I ever corner you with my thousands of pictures, run! :) You can see a select few on my Flickr: http://urltea.com/mra
Jeff, come to Oklahoma! The photo ops are amazing, and you will be astounded at the different kinds of "serious fun" we have to offer.

A better question is how many countries have you lived in for extended periods?
Visiting Berlin in 1999 for a 24 hour 'capital raising roadshow dash' hardly counts as opposed to the 9 months I lived in Malaysia.
I think that the true threshold of 'living' in a country is obtaining a drivers license. Once you've experience public servants hell you can then check the box saying you lived somewhere.
So far I've lived/worked in 4 countries for 6 months or more including now the USA.
But funny story I was here in Manhattan on the UES for over 18 months before I crossed the river to go to New Jersey :).
Cheers,
Dean

States still to visit on my list (and stay for at least a night as airport visits don't count in my book) include: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wyoming and Wisconsin.

I've visited 21 countries so far from my home base in Sweden. I haven't counted, but I would guess that I've set foot in 8-10 US states.

Fun one!
I can say I have visited 39 states. My still-to-be-conquered list includes: Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada (believe it!), North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming.
As far as countries go, I can lay claim to 29...the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Russia, Austria, Morocco, and Sweden...and later this year I expect Norway to become my magic #30.
Happy Memorial Day to everyone reading...and Go Cubs!

46 states (missed Alaska, North and South Dakota, Wisconsin) and 15 countries (Europe, Caribbean, Mexico and Canada). Always glad to be home, but love to travel!

Interesting question.
My countries include Sweden and Germany (thanks, Jeff!), France, England, Scotland and Wales, Italy, Austria, Germany (before!), Netherlands, Ireland, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Burma.
I would love to see more of the Mediterranean countries, especially Greece and Portugal (brackets!)
Here's to everyone having a glorious long weekend!
