Kfir Pravda: How to make my mom watch Internet TV

Kfir Pravda: How to make my mom watch Internet TV

"Internet TV is one of the most important development in the world of television and media in the last 10 years. The ability of creators to shoot and distribute shows in a fraction of the budget needed just 5 years ago is certainly a disruptive force in the industry.

However, this market is still a niche, with low viewership compared to traditional media. This is a double edged sword - on the one hand there are a lot of opportunities to capture the market, but on the other hand, without getting money flowing to this industry, most of the players won’t survive - and we will miss this opportunity for good.

So why aren’t (more) people watching?"

Seems to me that this is a classic long tail play. The long and simple of it. There is no doubt in my mind that there will be HUGE breakout hits that are only available on the Internet and such hits will have mainstream adoption. It is going to happen. In fact for some people, it already has. During the past year a number of people have signed contracts with media companies who were discovered on the Internet.

But the beauty here is that anyone and everyone has the potential of becoming a breakout "TV Star" - all you need is a little luck...and some talent.

Jeff you're totally right! As a guy who's been slogging my music in a niche electronica music scene I've already developed a theory on success, regardless of the medium.

Success is for those who are willing to go where the action is... go where the audience is... and interact with their audience. Those will understand and appreciate that outside world will get "the moms".

How many ppl are creating products or focusing their energy in going to where their audience is... if their core audience isn't online... where are they? Go where they are, and create something in their world... bring some of them back to the net, back to your content.

If you build, promote and share it where your audience is... they'll come. It's more work then just building it and complaining when there's no traffic... but that's what it takes. Make a flyer, a business card, write a magazine... do something to give "the moms" a real world relevance and create the demand for them to seek you online.

Before the internet, and today... social media was/is about being social... and not just to other "power players" in the social media sphere... to everybody and anybody who might be interested in whatever product/media you have to share.

And if you talk to Kfir's mom, and she's into what you're doing... she'll probably find you on the net.

No, sir. No, no, no. The only winners in the Long Tail are the aggregators - for the individual, the Long Tail is a death sentence if you're not #1, which is more or less the point of Seth Godin's book, The Dip. The question for everyone is this - in a world with a million channels, who's got the TV Guide for Kfir's mom, and can she use THAT?

so jeff - on your comment "the beauty here is that anyone and everyone has the potential of becoming a breakout "TV Star" - i think we are already stars, legends in our own minds and if the star of the show would be regualr people really opening up their minds and others could look inside and see what and how our minds work or don't work and how much we spend on thinking about things that we are hardwired to think about like sex or is there anything else we think about - oh yes more sex and being a show piece - i think to make a show like that where we could see inside the unimaginable that we think - the stream of consciousness and that we are already on stage in our own soap operas - that is the revolution of the internet - people being people - go METS - geo
