Question of the Day: Summer’s Here: What do YOU want to DO this SUMMER?
“Summer's here
I'm for that
Got my rubber sandals
Got my straw hat
Got my cold beer
I'm just glad that it's here” – James Taylor, “Summer’s Here”
---
As a kid, my concept of Summer was the endless amount of time between when school ended in June until the time I had to go back to school in September. Back then I never had any plans to do anything and I more or less went along with whatever my parents suggested I do. It was during the summer that as a family we rented an RV and explored America. It was during the Summer where I learned about “Bungalow Colonies” and the Catskills and a few other things.
It was during one summer that I learned how to write code, another summer when I first declared myself to be a DJ, and yet another summer when I learned how to shoot pool. I also spent time discovering Amateur Radio..Never with a plan in front of me, but just time to do everything or nothing or something in between.
Things got even better when I went to College since my summer was extended about a month, from the time finals were over in May until I had to return to school at the end of August. But once I graduated, life was forever different. No more endless summers. When I first started working, the biggest shock in my life (amongst others) was when I would only have 2 weeks off for the entire year. Eventually this changed for me, but it took quite some time before I would have 3 weeks or more of vacation time during the course of any year.
However, I immediately started to appreciate what a luxury it really was to choose to do something or nothing with my free time.
Which gets me to Today’s Question of the Day: With today being the first full day of the Summer of 2007, I was just wondering, what (if any) are your plans for the Summer of 2007? What do you WANT to do THIS Summer?

This summer, I want to start a few small movements. I want to put some seeds in the ground - the underground, to start a digital revolution here and there. I want to put the network nodes in place, want to build the codes, and then I want to execute.
I want to throw a microconference. Not un, but more the gathering of minds for creativity's sake. I want a DO! gathering - name coming shortly - where it's not about capturing revenue; it's about breeding ideas.
That's all so far.
Oh, and I want to body surf in the ocean.

I want to spend some time eating hot dogs and nachos and peanuts and Cracker Jack and pretzels and and and etc. at the ballpark (preferably Wrigley Field, of course), alas...

I'll be busy this summer hooking up my podcast guns and turning this web TV bandwagon into a technical. After watching you, geo and cafn8d broadcast on blogTV this afternoon, I'm more excited than ever!

Learn how to shoot video. And relax just a little.

Even with this being a year with no vacation days for me (all of the Jewish holidays are falling midweek so there goes vacation), I am still hoping to make a trip to California. I'm hoping I can make it to both the SF Bay Area and Nevada City. Perhaps I can justify it under guise of going to one of our company's network labs.
I'm also hoping to spend time making some movies/podcasts and get up into the mountains for some hikes and picture taking.
There may be no "summer vacation", but there is summer weather and that certainly can be enjoyed.

Getting ready to take a combination of a business trip and family holiday to London, Moscow and Israel. Yes, I bring the computer and BlackBerry and all the camera gear.
The trick is to shut it off once in a while and just enjoy, while take care of things when you need to.
So what I want to do this summer is take some time off, but keep the conversation going, keep up with my blogging buddies like you and Chris and maybe meet new like minded people via Twitter and Blogging as we travel.
