Party 2.0: Give Real-time Social Networking a Try

Galina Beach Club in the Port of Tel Aviv was the location for “A Real-Time Social Networking Experiment" on the night of July 12th. With 100+ friends on Facebook from Israel I thought it would be interesting to get my friends together and give everyone a chance to get to know each other...So I did.

Bringing together a virtual social network and watching it transition into a physical face-to-face network was a pretty interesting experience.

The event ran for 2 1/2 hours – from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm and around 150 people came out for the event. To help with the networking we provided stickers and asked the guests to include their Facebook name, Company affiliation and include a “personal tag line.” One guest shared the following comment: “…by the way, the social tagging/stickers was a great idea - a very good icebreaker -- and it really made it so much easier to go up and talk to people we'd never met before.”

Based on the feedback received, this was a successful experiment and something that I plan on doing again in the future. There were a number of people who contributed to the event who I would like to thank including: Tal Chalozin (event stickers), Rey Tavor (event muse) and Tal Muskal (event semantinet). Special thanks to Sharon, Adi and Asaf from Galina for their help at the event. And special thanks to all of my friends from Facebook in Israel who came out and helped make the event happen.

Two of our guests have blogged about the event:

Hey CoolVer,
Just wanted to thank you and say that the event works! I met and connected with more people instead of Avatars:) and generated leads.
It was great.
