The Social Media Community Shares Ideas about Social Identity:

Since exploring the merits of consistent personal branding in the evolving world of Social Media, I have become aware of other people who have recently also shared related ideas in their recent blog posts. Some of these people include:

Johan Myrberger: I am me. Are you you? And should we be?

Connie Bensen: Personal Branding

Jeffrey Sass: Non-Anonymous (Say THAT 10 Times Fast!)

For people who are just discovering Social Media, the issue of personal branding is something to keep in mind. And for people involved in the world of Internet Communications, this sometimes disconnect of social identity provides a great opportunity for a startup or two to help bridge the social identity gap.

I'm ANGRY that I still have not received a response from facebook. I get the feeling that the problem of facebook is that it puts too much responsibility into one enterprise. Anyone says anything out of line and Zuckerburg goes fascist because the Volvo Soccer moms get angry (the same people who buy the majority of products and thus fuel the economy... the ladies that changed your diapers).

Jeff Pulver mentioned that facebook is more then Web 2.0... that facebook is the Operating System of Web 2.0. So I guess that makes MYSPACE the MS-DOS. So when is MYSPACE going to upgrade and put a Windows shell in? The tyranny of one O.S. can not continue. PROGRAMMERS.... someone can make a lot of money (and I'm only telling you this because I'm not one)...

Listen:
If facebook is the O.S.
why not make a widget that is full facebook Ap compatible.... and yet could be put in any BLOG or even MYSPACE. This would bust the whole system open. It is only a matter of time before some programmer NABSTERS the OS away from these college politically correct fascists. why doesn't myspace do it? RUPERT MURDOCH... I know your making too much money off your satelite business to see any profit from this. But if you really are against the tyranny of the "Left" like you claim! PLEASE DO THIS. facebook is the STALINISM of the 21st century. WE NEED A FREE MARKET OF OPEN DECENT SOCIAL NETWORKS
MAKE ZUCKERBURG OPEN SOURCE facebook... he probably stole it anyway. NO ONE SHOULD BE THROWN OFF A SOCIAL NETWORK FOR TRYING TO FRIEND SOMEONE OR FOR POLITICAL SLANTS. YOU DON"T WANT TO FRIEND ME? FINE. I'M TIRED OF BEING CHAPERONED!

What is myspace really lacking?
(1) feed and Elite Networks
(2) video
(3) graffiti wall
(4) Blog friends
myspace doesn't need zombies and vampires

HACK facebook!

Thanks Jeff for the link! It took me awhile to get over the idea of needing to be 'anonymous' online. Now, I'm enjoying being myself. :)

My blog is dedicated to Personal Branding and Connie is actually the editor for my magazine, Personal Branding Magazine. Thanks for touching on this subject.

Until I saw the words “personal branding” in this post, I had not equated my presence on the Internet with my own "brand". But that is exactly the correct concept to describe what I have been doing to make myself known, even before “social networking” became a term.

I established my own “branded” website, GaryBurge.com, in 1998. When I register at websites, I consistently use “garyburge” as a username or screenname. I try to stake my territory, so to speak, by joining new websites as soon as possible after they are announced. Not only to have a consistent personal brand, but also, I am loath to admit, because I would otherwise be unable to remember my logon credentials at the hundreds of sites at which I am a member.
