Jeff- Howsit' brah? Things are warm here in Honolulu but it looks like I will leave my temp. assignment for the DoD at Ford Island in the middle of Pearl Harbor next fall and go back to the Washington State Commission. While I've been here I've tried to stay in touch with the regulatory climate for all things IP on the mainland which remain fluid at best.

I can also tell you that the federal government, and most particularly the DoD, is interested in all things IP, including voice, but are very hung up with security. I know that even in private industry security is getting a lot of attention (ala Scott Adams, MORDAC, the preventer if Information Services). I can't tell you the number of times that I've been told that I just don't understand security. Digital certs, PKI, SSL, etc just don't seem to be enough to breakthrough the security barrier. Do you guys see something new coming on the horizon?

Hope to see ya'll at a VON conference sometime next Fall. Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hao'oli Makahiki Hou. -Bob Williamson
