The Disrupted 2007/08 Television Season:

While it may just be a coincidence, but in this blog last week, I questioned why the major networks were not taking shows from their cable assets and redeploying them on their broadcast networks. Well, it seems they soon will be.

Reuters is reporting today that CBS will rerun the entire first season of the crime drama "Dexter" from Showtime in February. The move of "Dexter" to CBS marks the first time that a full season of a pay-cable series has made the transition to commercial television. CBS is also considering picking up “Weeds” from Showtime.

And NBC will recycle episodes of "Monk" and "Psych" from USA Network, beginning in March.

One of the positives about living in NZ is that we get pay-cable series like Dexter and Big Love on network television, swearwords and all (you're allowed to say s**t on TV here and in Australia; Harrison Ford once spent an entire talk-show appearance repeating incredulously, 'Really? I can say s**t?').

The negative is that we get them sporadically, they air inconsistently, they're liable to switch viewing times without prior warning, and we can usually only afford half a dozen episodes or so -- not good if you have any intention of following a plot through to its conclusion!
