Introducing SuperTagger: Tag People, Products, Places and more on Facebook.

Today I am launching a new product from the pulver.com Incubator.

It is called SuperTagger and it is a Facebook application that allows you to tag anyone and anything in a photo. The original thought came to me a few months ago while at Geekcon 2007 in Israel. I was frustrated because Facebook only lets me tag people in photos, and I wondered - why not tag places? Or objects? By doing so we are empowering users to tag whatever they feel like, and this opens up a world of possibilities - when tagging places, we could mashup with maps, when tagging objects, we could Mashup with e-commerce, and the possibilities are endless.

Today we are launching the 1st version of SuperTagger. Future versions will depend on user comments, inputs & requests.

The application was developed by our partners Ohad Eder Pressman and Eyal Navon. We hope you like it. Please let me know any feedback you have.

Please give SuperTagger a try. visit: http://apps.facebook.com/supertagger/ when you are in Facebook

Cool concept. Think outside the postit! Why whould you plink/supertag? For the same reasons that 200k+ people throw vampires. See below too

An interesting idea.
An API to these tags would be neat.
And, a standard way to tag the location of the picture would also be great, so that it would be possible to mash this up on a map or something...

Interesting. What benefit do I get from tagging objects using this application and not by simply tagging a non-person using the built-in tagging system of facebook?

I assume (before adding the application) that there is some way to track such tags across people and albums, but I couldn't find such description in the application pages or in this post.

Jeff,
A company called Plink.tv demonstrated something quite similar at the New Tech Meetup in NY the other night.
They seemed to focus on the e-commerce aspect, but many people were annoyed (booing) as they were keeping all revenue for themselves if someone tagged an object and someone else bought it.
Suggest you keep that crowd reaction in mind.

This is great, Jeff!! I'm definitely going to be referencing this post in my Friday round-up on my blog. I know a lot of folks will want the ability to tag something other than people!
