Time for a Personal ReBOOT?

One of the things I have learned is that you can always “reboot yourself” and set yourself on a course for a new beginning. This isn’t something you have to tell anyone about, it is just something you just DO. Yes, depending upon where you find yourself in your life it can take a lot of effort to overcome your own internal inertia, but I have found this to be well worth the effort.

As we grow up, there comes a point in our life where we become the one responsible for setting our own direction. And when we get older, sometimes we get set in our ways and become passive about our future. We forget what we did to get to where we are and we forget about what it takes to stay there. While living in the status quo may be great for a number of people, challenging the status quo is something which drives my own passions and sometimes I need to be reminded about this.

As the leader of YOUR life, it is up to you to take charge and the responsibility for setting (and keeping) your own direction. And when you see things are not working out, take a deep breath and be prepared to take another approach to get you to where you need to be.

Sometimes a lil' rebooting is good for the soul! Rebooting and Yoga combined...that's what I am talking about.

Thanks for this post. It is very inspirational and forgiving. I think that is important.

I'm constantly trying to figure out how to get to where I want and need to be. I think after some reflection, there are many things that one can reboot about one's self.
Always make you a better person.

Thanks for re-booting out loud, and sharing this with those of us who feel less confident about setting out in new directions. It's valuable and extremely generous of you to share the experience and wisdom. Thanks Jeff...

Jeff,

This post is so inspiring, as is generally all of your writing, and again I kick myself for not having come for breakfast, as Rebecca (Miss604) has spoken great things about you.

I will make sure to meet you at the next Pulver Breakfast, for sure.

Thanks for inspiring us to be better.

@NoOneYouKnow, I appreciate that. The ReBoot happens at different points in our lives. Sometimes naturally, sometimes not so.

And there are different drivers / motivation for this.

Sometimes the ReBoot happens for you - like when you are fired or otherwise lose your job. Othertimes it happens because you realize you need to find yourself or discover yourself or Seize the Moment (or 1000+ more reasons).

I'm thinking about parts 2+3...

And I'd also like to hear the stories. I do have a share of my own. :)

Hi Jeff,
This one sort of needs a series of posts IMHO. Short and simple is good on Twitter, but I'd like to hear your specific moments of clarity on timing for a ReBOOT and what you did about them. I'm also interested to hear your readers (especially people I know like Suki Fuller) share their breaks from complacency. If it get's going, I'll jump in with a few of mine. Looking forward to Part 2, 3, forever.
Cheers, Adam

Right on, Jeff. Furthermore, as a number of the comments indicate, doing so with the partnership of a trusted mentor/guide/coach can make a big difference. I know it has for me.

:o)

I'm not the only person being impacted by your nudging...

See, told you.

Short and simple. I think after some reflection, there are many things that one can reboot about one's self. Either in business or personally. Thanks for the perspective reminder.

What I am enjoying about many of your posts of late is that they are full of positive energy and also about doing things that are not easy but that are ultimately good for all of us to take note of and to take action about.

I have recently been through this in the last year...but it took someone else to point out obvious truths that I couldnt see about myself...I called it course correction...never able to do it alone and painful if done properly. Takes an immense development in a key leadership trait of being self-aware...perhaps a tad dramatic for a Monday afternoon :)

I'm so thankful to know that I'm not the only one who reboots on occasion. I'm constantly trying to figure out how to get to where I want and need to be. And, some days my personal harddrive feels like it's crashed and burned.

Good post. I just found your blog from following you on Twitter.
I like your approach and thinking. I am just in the process of setting some goals and rebooting myself so your post hit the mark with me.
