Where Am I Going?

“Where Am I Going?” is a good question to ask yourself from time to time.

For all the times in our lives when we think we know the answer to the question “Where Am I Going?”, we can be secretly lost inside and not aware of it. These are times when we don’t know where we are going, where we want to be, or who we really want to be.

Unlike our cars and our phones, there is no optional GPS in our bodies that gives us absolute guidance. The only way we know where we are or where we are going is by asking ourselves the question and being honest with our own answers to these questions.

Knowing you don’t know where you are going can be a liberating life experience. All it requires is to bring an open mind. Is now the time to dream big? Is now the time for a Personal ReBoot? Are you so focused on your end goals you are about to be blindsided by them?

Knowing the answer to “Where Am I Going?” may be all you need to get there.

John 8:12-14. Jesus can give you the direction to know where you have been and where you are going...God Bless. :)

Seriously, are you trying to talk me into quitting my job? Because it's rough out there right now.

Jeff,

Thanks for another great post. I live by those words. In Spanish, we say that a ship without a compass (e.g. without direction) goes nowhere. I am glad that your words reminded me that I have a direction to take, and that it is up to me to get there.

Posted by: Raul at July 14, 2008 01:04 PM

@mark_hayward, those are great words from Scott Rigsby. Thank you for sharing them.

Posted by: Jeff Pulver at July 14, 2008 09:11 AM

Morning Jeff! Knowing where you are going is extremely important, however, many people just need to get moving.

Scott Rigsby, the first above the knee double amputee to complete the Hawaii IronMan triathlon, once said to me, "You can't steer a parked car." He is correct.

Hope you have a great week.

@Jeremy - for everyone who chooses to "Go with the Flow" there will be someone who wakes up and realizes they flowing in a direction where they don't want to be. Only when someone is self-aware of what is going on around them do they really know where they are going, especially when others around them are just "going with the flow."

Posted by: Jeff Pulver at July 14, 2008 08:29 AM

Sometimes though Jeff you have to go with the flow.

@DarrenDazCox -

"Choose a path and follow it, better to fail than not to try" is something I also believe in. :)

Posted by: Jeff Pulver at July 14, 2008 08:14 AM

In my quest to figure out the big questions I've found that the idea of 'there are no wrong choices, only a lack of choices' rings true. Choose a path and follow it, better to fail than to not try.

It's not what you do, in the big picture, that matters, it's how you do it.

Another great post. Thanks for the cup of cold water in the face as a reminder about looking at the forest beyond the trees.
