Delver: A New Social Search Engine Launches
Give Delver a try.
According to their website:
“Delver is an intelligent social search engine that enables you to find, experience and benefit from the wealth of information created and referenced by your social world.”
Their mission is: “...to empower you to easily discover and benefit from the collective wisdom of your social world. Your circle of friends and extended network are increasingly creating and sharing useful information and media online through: blogs, videos, reviews, articles, websites, music… and the list is only growing. By indexing all that shared knowledge, media, opinions, and activities, we can deliver search results that are truly relevant to you.”
Friends of mine who are involved in social media will have fun exploring the semantic relationships Delver will discover for them.

I am not sure I understood the way it works...I answered the first couple questions and searched some keywords but it remains quite unclear : What is the added value?
I don't think there is a special value on social networks' profiles. Because most of the time you don't actually edit content, you just post random content about yourself such as facts (What I like : butterflies and Pancakes, what I do : Professional Canasta player...not much about anything...) or items (Pictures, videos, etc.). So how can this be structured into an answer to a search engine's query?
On top of that most social networks ask you to be logged in to give you some info : so does this mean you have to give full details about your accounts before getting any interesting results? If yes then it is a HUGE barrier for anyone who'd think about signing in.
If no then I am really really worried, because anyone can get detailed informations about my friends and collegues without even asking me the right to browse my network...
So honestly I don't quite see the value of the service and its success potential. But I surely miss sthg (I could for instance not sign up)...

Me.dium recently released a search engine that does some of the very same things. The idea of social searching is going to the wave of the future.
Me.dium’s Social Search, which leverages the Yahoo! Search BOSS platform, provides an entirely new level of information on top of traditional search. Me.dium’s Social Search harnesses the activity of the crowds to let you find information that has relevance based on what people are actually surfing right now.
Me.dium’s technology lets the inherent activity of real people - not robotic crawlers - determine relevance. Me.dium’s Social Search results show what people are surfing and find interesting, right now. While other search engines base relevance on how content links across pages, Me.dium’s Social Search shows you the most popular news, reviews, pictures and videos that other people are actually looking at in relation to your search term. And as the activity of the people online changes, so do the search results.

I don't think are officially launched. Seems a blog post and a twitter may have over loaded their servers. When I used it an hour ago I was pretty impresssed. Give it a try again a little later...

Whoops. Now it appears the entire site is down. I will step away slowly.

I tried it out, Jeff. The sign up procedure failed twice. The site was incredibly slow, and there were a lot of "undefined" messages so I gave up. Are they officially launched? The concept sounds interesting. I will try again later.
