Exploring: “The State of Now”

Since announcing the 140 Characters Conference, while working on the event, I have been thinking about the moment in time we are experiencing, in what feels like the early days of something new and different.

Living and experiencing information in The Now is just different when compared to the way we are used to experiencing things. Since the launch of the commercial internet in 1993 we may have been on-line in real-time, but we experienced access to information that was slightly old to ancient. Today access to information has changed so much in the past year that today we are now living in “The State of Now.”

And while the event is called the 140 Characters Conference and is bringing together a worldwide twitter community together, the phenomena of The State of Now is much bigger than twitter. I believe when we think about what businesses have been effected by the disruption caused with the ability for just about anyone to be able to experience information in real-time isn’t something that is going away anytime soon, regardless of what eventually may happen to who ends up owning the twitter platform. We are not about to go back in time, but only forward and I look forward to having a chance to better understand the way things are and the way they may become because of the change agent known as twitter.

Some thoughts about #140conf and exploring the “State of Now” in my mind:

Hello,

I want to come to your get together, because you are correct. This is a new beginning and I would like to be there and if possible tell my story.

Dick Keane
Stock Shock movie - Narrator

I want to take on the Business media, just like Ashton took on CNN. I need the help of each and every one of you to help me tell the Twitter World my story and my movie about Wall Street corruption and what the media has not told us.

Jeff,

I think you are forcing us to think deeper into the meaning of social networks and real-time-web.
You lead us to analyze future trends to better plan, and address "challenges" before to late.
The brain power working now on "monetizing social networks" is greater than ever, and we better discuss remedies before illness hits

THANK YOU JEFF

It's bigger then twitter. You are correct. Twitter has brought back the basics and made it faster and better. It's a large chat room with txting capabilities. So that's why older people flock to it more so it brings back the feeling of AOL chat rooms. With it connecting so well to mobile devices it really has brought a feeling of empowerment and creativity. The basically created the thought of real time web. & they created inspiration in the hearts of many... with the 1000 plus twitter apps created. We will look back and thank Twitter most for the inspiration!!

nice video. Nice to know people do care and see the big picture on things.

I really appreciate the change in communications and those that drive it. (Thanks Jeff!)

For business, it a great way to connect with those that truly matter. Consumers have much more information and power in their voices. With that said, for me it has been eye opening to be able to connect with people real-time in various geographic regions. The benefits for those doing philanthropic work is profound. Now an individual in an emerging economy has access to nearly the same information as we do in the States. Someone without water or electricity - can use a mobile phone to Twitter, text or talk. People are learning to reading and write thanks to this trend. It may be in 140 characters or less - but "The State of Now" is more than just a new business tool.

I love Twitter and the whole social media space. However, I feel that with all these amazing tools and apps and everyone instant and now- it feels harder, not easier. May be it's the industry I'm in which has taken a blow but I know I am not the only one who feels frustrated and just as you feel caught up there's something new to grasp at that momement. I look forward to learning, exploring and making new discoveries at this conference as well as meeting innovative cutting edge people. Nothing like a hand shake, real-time contact and active networking.
