#140conf Los Angeles Starts Tomorrow
The 140 Characters Conference: Exploring the State of NOW, will taking place at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, CA starting tomorrow, October 27th.
After the success of the first #140conf in New York City this past June, I make a commitment to produce follow up events in both Los Angeles and London. I have been working on these conferences more or less non-stop ever since. The trade off is that I have at times have fallen behind in my blogging, my emailing and the time I am able spend on Facebook and at times even twitter. I am reminded that there are only 168 hours in a week and despite what I may say, one does need to get some sleep every now and then.
In the weeks leading up to the Los Angeles conference, I started to appreciate the systemic effects the worldwide adoption of twitter is having on society and it is my hope and goal with the event for people to get a better appreciation of what is happening on the Internet today. When you take a deep look at the ways various groups of people have independently adopted twitter for their own purposes, you might appreciate why I call twitter “social media tofu.”
I have been creating, hosting and producing events since 1996. In the years of making events happen, it took until 2009 to have an opportunity to discuss mainstream topics and invite a number of high profile people to speak one of my events. There have been moments leading up to this coming event that have felt more than a little surreal.
We are living in the very early stages of the “State of NOW.” Over the next few years the emerging real-time Internet will have a dramatic effect on the way many of us approach business and interact on the Internet. We are living at a time where the world has gone flat, just as Thomas Friedman describes. These are the days where time and distance from something happening no longer really matters. Access to such information is becoming democratized. Regardless of where you are in the broadband world, as long as you have internet access, you can learn about events in (almost) real-time.
I’d like to thank the 140+ speakers, sponsors and delegates attending #140conf Los Angeles. Special thanks also to everyone responsible with the event operations and special thanks to my friends on twitter who helped contribute to the buzz and who provide a constant reminder to me about the humanity and serendipity one can discover on twitter at any given moment.
When you have a chance, please visit the event schedule to get a feel of the number of different people and different topics that will be discussed. At #140conf, I look at twitter as a platform we use and as a language we speak. #140conf will provide a chance to connect with people from a diverse number of industries from a number of places around the world where the only thing we all have in common is that we speak twitter.
Please follow the #140conf hashtag the next couple of days to keep up with the buzz and information and knowledge shared at #140conf Los Angeles.
