Next Stop: Detroit
This morning I am en route to Detroit to re-connect with an amazing community that will be part of the #140Conf Detroit on October 20. This is a two-day trip starting off with a planning meeting for the October event tonight. On Thursday night, we’re having gathering of the members of the social media community of Detroit at Urbane Space, 1050 N. Adams in Birmingham, which is being sponsored by the Social Media Club of Detroit from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. I hope you will be able to join us.
I’m often asked, “Why Detroit?” As with any community, it comes down to the people. Be it the #140Conf events in New York, LA, London, Tel Aviv and Barcelona that have been held, Detroit reflects a city and its core industry- the automobile in a period of renaissance.
I think the car, especially the American car, represents an iconic blend of music and culture that defines much of who we are. Detroit also has had a huge impact on the music industry with legends from Motown who created the iconic musical forms of gospel, jazz, rhythm & blues, soul, rock and hip hop.
Detroit touches my heart and soul and I thank everyone for coming out to show the world what an amazing community you have. I also thank the GM / Buick team and Gardner-White for supporting and sponsoring our upcoming October event.
